If you are upgrading from DV Tree Version 1, please see the
READ.ME file for installation notes and instructions. Also, the new
features listed for version 2.1 may all be found in DVTREE.DOC by scanning
for the string 'N2.1'.
Changes for DV Tree versions 2.2 and 2.3 have also been
incorporated into DVTREE.DOC. Scan for 'N2.3'.
A detailed modification history follows:
DV Tree 2.3 (08/29/91) 7th Shareware Release (2.3.1 for Reg. users)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
- DVTREE.DOC and other documentation files updated (at last, and phew!).
- DVTXDI version 1.4 incorporated into package.
DV Tree 2.3.03 (08/25/91) 2.3 Pre-Release (Reg. users)
---------------------------------------------------------
- Worked around DV bug that caused windows to resize in inappropriate
ways during changes in graphics modes (partial fix only, unfortunately).
- Added %T code to allow F-Keys assigned alternate titles to be viewed
as unique applications when other windows might have been activated
via the same open keys.
- Added code to detect changes to DVTREE_? files to provide better
support for users sharing tree files on networks (as well as single
machines running multiple copies of the program).
- Added support for 10 'user macro' code strings, defined from the
DESQview Functions screen. User macros may be assigned any portion
of a code string, and included in normal code strings by codes
%0 - %9. This allows, in effect, both longer code strings as well
as the ability to crunch commonly used code string sequences into
more easily manageable entities.
- File sizes greater than 1Mil bytes will now show in nnnnK (Kbyte)
values up to a limit of about 97Meg.
DV Tree 2.3.02 (08/04/91) 2.3 Pre-Release (Reg. users)
---------------------------------------------------------
- Added warning message when '&' in %c portion of code strings.
- Grew menu item fields 1 char to the left for mouse users (so the
mouse cursor doesn't cover up the first character).
- Added %L code to allow an F-Key to be 'locked' so that it may only
be used against %X??? or .EXT defined files (more detail in
SAMPLE.EXT).

DV Tree 2.3.01 (07/24/91) 2.3 Pre-Release (Reg. users)
---------------------------------------------------------
- Fixed problem with Global options save from 3-column, horizontal
split screens.
- Worked around DV bug that caused tree window to reposition to top
when going background.
- Worked around DV bug that caused cursor bar to disappear when a file
mark operation causes it to move on top of an already marked field.
- '.' failed to bring up the switch drives menu during copy/move
operations. Fixed.
- Tree (A)dd and (R)ename allowed invalid DOS names ( > 8 char with no
extension). Fixed.
- Enhanced PageUp so it acts like Home when already on 1st screen.
- Added new command line option: NOHOP. This option turns off the
tree and file hopping feature during =Jump operations for anyone who
doesn't like the blinking mouse cursor or who has scripts that depend
on fast input during jumps.
- Added new command line option: TROOT. This option causes DV Tree
to create and maintain DVTREE_? (the tree files) in the root directories
of all hard drives (rather than in the DV Tree 'home' directory.
- Enhanced window creation operations so that secondary windows are offset
from the main screen.
- By popular demand, made (E)xec on directories cause a dir change.
- Changed to allow (A)ttr on directories.
- Enhanced (A)ttr command to work on groups of marked files.
- Improved and streamlined tree rebuild code when large numbers of dirs
are klipped.
- Enhanced %X code processing to allow a single dot (%X. ) to mean 'no
extension'.
- DV Function enhancements:
* A .EXT file may now be assigned to a DV Function Key. This file
file must be created manually, and must be available in the DV
Tree 'home' directory. The .EXT file is an extension to the
%X??? code, and should contain a list of file extensions to link
to the F-Key. Example:
.lst
.asc
.doc
.
...and so on. The . preceding the extension is required.
* Alternate titles may now be assigned to DV Function Keys. When
an alternate title has been entered, windows created via the F-Key
will be given the alternate title, rather than the title shown in the
PIF file.
* File 'reloads' into windows will update the window title. If the %Z
code is present in the string (indicating recursive reloads), the
file name in the window title will show as "(multi)".
page -3-
* The open keys assigned to a DV Function Key may now be changed to
any 2 character combination. This allows the assignment of PIF files
not available on the DV Open Menu.
DV Tree 2.2.6 (06/26/91) Interim Release (Reg. users)
---------------------------------------------------------
- @C clone and append commands would not work correctly if files were
marked.
DV Tree 2.2.5 (06/15/91) Interim Release (Reg. users)
---------------------------------------------------------
* Enhanced %r code for greater flexibility:
- In split screen, by default, it will cause only 1 directory to
be refreshed (allowing file marks to be preserved...). The
directory will be the pointed-at directory *unless* the %O code
appears before %r, in which case only the opposite directory
will be reread.
- To force a dual directory refresh, code %rb
- If the ^A (auto refresh) toggle is on, both directories will
*always* be refreshed.
- Tree wouldn't position to current directory on large, non cursor
scrolling trees.
- Window errors could occur when directories were refreshed while in
(Z)pecial functions.
- Command line TMAX= values would fail if over 220.
- Program rejected %!9 code as invalid.
DV Tree 2.2.4 (05/28/91) Interim Release (Reg. users)
---------------------------------------------------------
- Made interactive jumps case insensitive.
- Selected byte and @1024 counts would not get correctly reset after
moves/deletes.
DV Tree 2.2.3 (05/12/91) Interim Release (Reg. users)
---------------------------------------------------------
- Reassignment of (E)xec key via EXEC= on command line was broken (now
fixed).
page -4-
DV Tree 2.2.2 (04/16/91) Interim Release (Reg. users)
---------------------------------------------------------
* = (Jump) command enhancements:
1) 'Fuzzy' search ability added. If the input begins with '=',
the program will now look for a match anywhere in the file or
directory name. For example, '=com' will find COMMAND.COM,
MYCOM.BAT, FC.COM, etc..
2) While strings are being entered, DV Tree will adjust its displays
accordingly. Note: This feature is NOT yet available for
'large trees' (trees for which cursor scrolling is not active.)
*
Minor changes:
- Tree processing could become confused if klipped subdirectories were
(R)enamed. Changed to automatically unklip renamed directories and
their parent directories.
- Changed program to not refresh the current split side after a split-
to-split copy operation.
DV Tree 2.2 (04/04/91) 6th Shareware Release (2.2.1 for Reg. users)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Made minor documentation and packaging changes:
- added ORDER.FRM to ease registration.
- simplified install procedures in INSTALL.DOC.
- included TZ-SCRIP.DVS and TS-SCRIP.DVS in package.
* Fixed shareware-only potential for refresh problems.
DV Tree 2.1.5 (03/25/91) Interim Release (Reg. users)
---------------------------------------------------------
* Added Expert Keys toggle (^E). With this toggle ON, DV Tree will bypass:
- the Q&A to confirm the (M)ove command.
- the Q&A to confirm the Tree (K)lip command.
- the toggle status info window after changes of toggle status.
* Made . (dot) equivalent to > (drive change) on the main & tree screens.
* Added %J DESQview Function code. This causes any DV Tree generated
command line to be placed at the end of an existing command line in the
PIF.
* More new DESQview Function codes:
%Mnnn - replaces memory in K values in PIF with nnn. Example:
%M080 (note: value must be 3 positions.)
%Nnnn - replaces memory in K values in PIF with nnn + the pointed
file size in K. (nnn must be 3 positions.)
* Changed to allow DESQview Function keys to work on empty directories.
* Changed delete/move processing so that files are not unmarked when errors
occur.
page -5-
* Fixed possible window problems after using ^F when not in split screen.
DV Tree 2.1.4 (03/14/91) Interim Release (Reg. users)
---------------------------------------------------------
* Fixed input character loss problem experienced when using a mouse, and
items not in the 'current' input screen were selected.
DV Tree 2.1.3 (02/25/91) Interim Release (Reg. users)
---------------------------------------------------------
*
Minor bug fixes:
- Removed the 'auto-entry' feature of input fields for consistency
with scripts (and after deciding it wasn't such a good idea to start
with.)
- Combinations of %c and %k in a DESQview Function code string, although
valid, weren't being allowed.
- Changed (F)ind dialogs ('Search only Current/Subdirectories?', and 'Append
to current find list?') to abort the find operation on ESC.
- Fixed cursor repositioning after file selection so that it won't roll
to the top of the display after selecting the last file. This caused
problems when 'leaning' on Enter or the Spacebar with the ^D toggle on.
- 'Restore Defaults' and 'Replace current (customization)' queries failed
to produce the desired results.
DV Tree 2.1.2 (02/22/91) Interim Release (Reg. users)
---------------------------------------------------------
*
Added a new command line option to allow control over how filenames are
shown in the display. The option is DISP=, and values are:
DISP=1 - Causes filenames to show in uppercase.
DISP=2 - Splits out extensions from filenames (ala DOS DIR).
DISP=3 - Both of the above.
*
Added a new DESQview Function code (%P) to enable overriding an existing
PIF parameter line (normally, DV Tree appends an existing command line
in the PIF to the end of any parameters added via other DV Tree codes).
*
Added 'Tag Newer' to the Split menu ([). This command will mark the newer
copies of all files with the same names of other files in the opposite
split. If files with the same name are identical, they will not be marked.
page -6-
*
Added a new toggle: ^Q --- Quik Floppys. Explanation and usage:
This toggle is provided to improve the flexibility of tree
operations, especially regarding copy/move. The default setting of this
toggle is ON, but if you are upgrading from an existing 2.n copy of DV
Tree, it will be OFF.
The ^Q toggle controls how DV Tree handles disks with no directory
structures (these will usually be floppy diskettes.) With ^Q ON, the
following occurs:
1) Copies to 'no-directory' disks will bypass the tree, making
such copies a one- or two- step operation, depending on the status of the
^C toggle.
2) Selecting a 'no-directory' drive from the (T)ree-(S)witch menu
will bypass the tree.
3) Copies from a 'no-directory' drive will go immediately to the
(S)witch menu.
Since the above three actions generally represent 'logical' next
steps, most people will want to run with ^Q on. If, however, you keep the
^C (auto copy) ON on a normal basis, you may want to turn ^Q OFF. In any
event, it's all a matter of taste, as shown in the following configuration
combinations:
Configuration 1: ^C OFF ^Q ON (default and 'old way')
- copy/move brings up a tree positioned to the current directory.
- TAB selects the opposite split.
- If dest is a 'no-directory' drive, copy/move begins, otherwise,
Enter causes copy/move to proceed.
Configuration 2: ^C ON ^Q OFF
- copy/move brings up a tree positioned to the opposite directory.
- Enter causes copy/move to proceed.
Configuration 3: ^C ON ^Q ON
- If dest is a 'no-directory' drive, copy/move begins immediately.
- (otherwise, like configuration 2).
Configuration 4: ^C OFF ^Q OFF
- copy/move brings up a tree positioned to the current directory.
- TAB selects the opposite split.
- Enter causes copy/move to proceed.
*
Minor bug fixes:
- DV Tree would go non-swappable unnecessarily in situations where
strings began with a 'dummy' %c (as in %c%D for a DOS window.)
- The 'No Matches Found' field would not be removed after re-reading
page -7-
a no longer empty directory with ^R.
- Marked file tallies would be incremented erroneously when marking
files via the Split menu ([) if matching files were already marked.
- The program would fail to find directories with archive, hidden, system
or read-only attributes. This sort of situation, though not 'normal',
may inadvertently be created with some utility programs.
- Improved carriage return handling of (P)rint and @(P)rint commands.
DV Tree 2.1 (02/10/91) 5th Shareware Release (2.1.1 for Reg. users)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Version 2.1 was a major new release of DV Tree. General
enhancements included support for customizing colors for the different
windows, "intelligent" windowing in less than full screen mode, better
support and screen appearance in EGA/VGA hi-res modes, support for large
trees (limited only by program memory considerations), better information
when duplicates are found during file copy/move operations, when global
options are saved, and directories are customized, an input prompt
'command history' feature, and lots of other little things.
All 2.1 features and commands are described in DVTREE.DOC, which
was rewritten, and expanded with an all-new table of contents.
PLUS:
New commands: (DVTREE.DOC: various sections)
@ESC - brings underlying application foreground.
(P)rint - 'Print' into underlying window.
@(P)rint - 'Print' into underlying window, stripping
out carriage returns.
(M)ove - (tree command) now moves subdirectories.
^D toggle - includes subdirectories in the file display
Backspace key - repeats an '=' jump (main and tree)
^\ - splits screen and creates a temporary
subdirectory.
New DESQview Function codes: (DVTREE.DOC: Appendix A):
%A - like %k, but for a running application.
&z/&y/&x/&w/&v - initiates {255}-{251} scripts in target
window. For use after %k and %A.
%X??? - associates an F-Key with a file extension
for use with the (E)xec command.
%@ - produces a file list from marked files.
%Qnn - creates a user definable input window.
%Z - 'recurses' function against all marked
files.
%&.n - produces a sub-second delay.
page -8-
%&i - DV Tree (I)ncl mask.
%R - One time defeat of ^A refresh.
&& - results in a single & character.
New command line parameters(s: (DVTREE.DOC: Command Line Options):
EXEC=S / EXEC=E - reassigns the (E)xec key to Enter or Space
OPP=d:\filespec - starts DV Tree split in 2 directories.
